Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program
The Montgomery County School Food & Nutrition Program is once again a proud recipient of the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program (FFVP) Grant. The FFVP is an annually-awarded federal grant that provides funding for fresh fruit and vegetable snacks to be served in elementary schools across the United States. Schools that participate in the program must offer free fresh fruits and vegetables to students during the school day at times other than meal service periods. Currently, Montgomery County Elementary School is a participating school.
Through a collaborative effort between participating schools and their respective state agencies, the FFVP strives to achieve the following goals: • Expand the variety of fruits and vegetables that children experience • Increase children’s consumption of fruits and vegetables • Impact children’s present and future health by making a difference in their diets
During the 2021-2022 school year, we will provide the FFVP snacks at MCES on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays during breaks. The FFVP snacks will include: apples, cantaloupe, grapes, broccoli, peaches, blueberries, zucchini, plums, and much, much more.
Thank you so much for supporting our program and please continue to encourage your children to eat healthy. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Kristen Garland, SFN Administrator at (912) 583-2301.
School Food & Nutrition
Montgomery County Schools' Nutrition Program is committed to serving nutritious, well-balanced meals to students daily. Our school nutrition program participates in the National School Lunch Program, National School Breakfast Program and Seamless Summer Program. All programs are regulated and funded by the the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) with the School and Community Nutrition Unit of the Georgia Department of Education overseeing the program administration. We strive to help build healthy children who are ready to learn.
We have two operating cafeterias where we serve an average of 1,200 meals per day. Breakfast and lunch are offered at both cafeterias, each of which is supervised by a ServSafe certified manager. USDA child nutrition guidelines and standards are followed in preparation and service of our meals.
All students receive breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE. Any extra meals or ala carte items will be at the expense of the students.
We welcome parental input and look forward to providing for your child's nutritional needs during the school day. Please feel free to contact us with any concerns or issues you may have about the meals your child is served. We can be reached at 912-583-2301, extension 204. Thank you.
