Non-Discrimination Statement

The Montgomery County School System does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, physical handicap, religion, or age in employment practices or in admission to or participation in any educational programs or activities as required by the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504), Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (Title II), Title VI of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 (Title VI), and the Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX).  Sexual harassment is an act of discrimination and is not tolerated.  Disability harassment is an act of discrimination and is not tolerated. Racial harassment is a form of discrimination and is not tolerated.

Section 504 and Title II prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability in matters relating to differential treatment, disability harassment, and failure to provide a free, appropriate, education, (FAPE) and employment.

Title VI prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, and color in matters relating to differential treatment, racial harassment, and employment (class issues).

Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in matters relating to differential treatment, sexual harassment, gender equity in athletics, and employment (class issues).

This policy will prevail in all matters concerning employees (employment, retention, and advancement), students, parents, the general citizenry, educational program, and services, and persons with whom the Board does business.

In keeping with the Board’s commitment and the requirement of applicable State and Federal law, the Board and staff will strive to remove any vestige of discrimination in employment, assignment, and promotion of personnel; in educational services and opportunities offered students; in location and use of facilities; in educational materials; and in all business transactions conducted by the Board.
